2026 Haverhill Science Festival
ONE Haverhill Partnership is proud to announce that the Haverhill Science Festival is returning to the town from Monday 20 to Saturday 25 April 2026.
The primary aims of the Haverhill Science Festival are to promote the study of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics in schools; boost the educational aspirations of local students in Haverhill and promote training opportunities in high-tech industry. We also want to highlight to investors and researchers in the Cambridge sub-region why Haverhill is an ideal base to set-up science and technology businesses.
Community Science Day
Saturday 25 April
Join us on the Market Square (11:00am – 3:00pm) for a day full of science and maths related events.
Come and find out more about the cosmos and the solar system with our mobile planetarium, learn about architecture and building in a hands-on workshop and discover the use of science every-day activities such as baking with Cook Stars.
The science and technology company Merck return with their Curiosity Cube along with a host of fascinating experiments for young and old alike and don’t miss Kelly the Robot and the Walkabout Scientist!

Baking is Delicious Science!

Join Cook Stars this April on the Haverhill Market Square for three hands-on baking sessions where young chefs can discover how baking is science in action. From measuring and ratios to fascinating ingredient reactions and the power of heat, children will explore how simple ingredients transform into delicious results.
Come mix, experiment, and taste the science — because baking isn’t just cooking, it’s edible science!
The recipe for the day will be Yoghurt Pot Muffins. Book your place below:
Haverhill based Architecture Workshops, have been running hands on cross curricular workshops, in schools for all Key Stages and abilities for over 25 years.
Our STEM & STEAM orientated workshops challenge, enthral and educate in equal measure.
We use wooden dowel and rubber bands to build many varied and wondrous building models, structures and sculptures, through which we make learning fun and the complex simple.
Join us for two exciting planetarium shows in St Mary’s Church courtyard.
Solar System Tour
45 Minute show cover the Solar System including the Moon, Earth Sun, all eight planets and some of the major, and not so major moons. We also cover comets, asteroids and dwarf planets.

Can you use science to discover the mystery of the Whodunnit?
This fun science workshop on the Market Square will use scientific techniques to solve crimes.
From fingerprints to chromatography and chemical testing of mystery substances. We will slowly eliminate our funny faced suspects through the process of elimination!
Haverhill Arts Centre will be hosting the exciting family-friendly show, Top Secret – The Magic of Science 'High Voltage' at 2:00pm.

Fusing the mystery of magic with wondrous and miraculous feats of science. Hang on to your seats and experience a non-stop, action-packed interactive magical science show with experiments and magic that will capture your imagination!
Top Secret is a fast moving colourful magical science show suitable for the whole family filled with mystery, suspense, and lots and lots of mess!

Merck’s Curiosity CubeTM mobile science lab features interactive, hands-on science experiments led by our employees. This allows visitors to ask questions and discuss the possibilities of a future career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
If you’ve ever been to Haverhill Arts Centre or a town council event you may have been wowed by the lights and sound!
Learn about the science of the theatre with EA Leisure, where you can explore theatre lights sound and a smoke machine.

An introduction to the world of interactive entertainment using FlockXR.com, a free-to-use programmable online gaming platform. A lifelong learning experience on how to create a fun activity that will entertain and educate both young and old minds.
All that is needed is a Laptop. Mobile Device or Raspberry Pi, with Google browser. (If you’re interested in purchasing a new Raspberry Pi, they’re available from local reseller The Pi Hut).

What went on in 2024
The Science Festival week in 2024 featured a range of exciting events. Some activities were exclusively for schools or businesses, but there were also events open to everyone to attend – from hands-on activities, to interactive experiences and thought-provoking discussions.
2024 Haverhill Science Festival

Science and faith - friends or foes?
Russell Cowburn is Professor of Experimental Physics at the University of Cambridge, where he researches nanotechnology and its application to healthcare. He is also a Christian. Some people might find this a strange combination. In his talk, Prof Cowburn explored some of the reasons some people think science and faith are incompatible and makes the case for why, in fact, they make perfect companions.

Haverhill Business Networking
As part of the Haverhill Science Festival, business leaders came together to discuss the benefits and challenges of Haverhill as a business site, within the Cambridge sub-region and A11 tech corridor.

BT Technology Day
BT provided a carousel of tech activities for Year 8 students, including robotics and programming technologies at Samuel Ward and Castle Manor.

Haverhill Jobs, Skills And Well-Being Fair
The jobs and skills fair offered visitors the chance to engage directly with businesses and training providers with the chance to explore different sectors and opportunities.

Lord Robert Winston
Lord Robert Winston visited students at Castle Manor Academy. His attendance was to encourage students to study STEM topics and inspire them to pursue careers in the amazing science and technology sector in Haverhill and beyond.

Lord Winston will be visited start up companies based at The EpiCentre to hear about their amazing and exciting research. His visit highlighted the opportunities that businesses in Haverhill can offer in the Cambridge sub-region.

Lord Winston is a Professor of Science and Society, and Emeritus Professor of Fertility Studies at Imperial College London. Lord Winston was in conversation with Georgy Jamieson, answering questions from the audience and signing copies of his latest book.

Samuel Ward 6th Form Students visit to bT Adastral Park
BT offered the opportunity for students to experience the future of technology – everything ranging from robots to holograms, to understanding what STEM translates to in the world of work. Students experienced the BT showcases with over 300 technology demonstrations, an inspiring journey across multiple jobs, careers, and university courses.

What Can space east do for your business?
Space East brought together innovative people from business and academia to share knowledge and explore exciting opportunities in the UK space sector.

Helen Sharman CMG OBE
Helen Sharman, the first British astronaut, spoke about her life, her career as a scientist, astronaut training, what it’s like to be living and working in space to students at Samuel Ward Academy.

STEAM Co. Community Science Day
STEAM Co. and Nick Corston hosted an incredible day of science related activities in East Town Park. Activities included a build your own rocket station, craft a cardboard creation, produce your own zine and the big rocket grand finale.

Dr Mark Gallaway: Haverhill Planetarium
People were invited to study the night sky inside an inflatable planetarium inside Haverhill Arts Centre.

Kinetic Adventure
Kinetic Adventure worked with all six primary schools in Haverhill to bring a total of ten whole-day science-based activities to over 1500 children in Haverhill.
